Your Etsy tags

See the tags live Etsy listings use

Search Etsy the way a buyer would. MOOSIZE reads up to 100 active listings for that search and counts which tags they use, so you can see the phrases your competition relies on.

Counts show how many of the sampled listings use each tag, in the order Etsy's API returns them for your search. They show what competitors use, not how often buyers search for it, so keep only tags that accurately describe your item.

How to use Etsy tags properly

Etsy permits up to 13 tags per listing, with a maximum of 20 characters per tag. Use phrases that accurately describe the product and reflect how a buyer may search.

      Avoid wasting tag space

Do not fill all 13 slots with minor variations of the same phrase. Cover the product, recipient, occasion, style, personalisation and buyer intent.

      Use multi-word phrases

A tag can hold a phrase, not just a single word. “Teacher gift mug” matches a more specific search than “mug” on its own, and a buyer searching a specific phrase is usually closer to buying. Keep each phrase under 20 characters, spaces included.

Don't repeat your category and attributes

The category you choose and the attributes you fill in, such as colour, material or occasion, already help Etsy match your listing to searches. Spend your 13 tags on phrases those fields don't cover, like the recipient, the style or what the item is for.

Match the words your buyers use

UK and US buyers search differently: “mum” and “mom”, “personalised” and “personalized”, “jumper” and “sweater”. If you sell to both, use a tag slot for the spelling of the market you want to reach rather than assuming one covers both.

      Keep tags and title consistent

Your most important phrases should appear in both your tags and your title. Tags that describe something the title and photos don't show will attract the wrong buyers.

      A worked example

For a personalised teacher mug, a balanced set covers the product (“personalised mug”, “custom name mug”), the recipient (“teacher gift”, “gift for teacher”), the occasion (“thank you gift”, “end of term gift”) and the style (“minimalist mug”), instead of thirteen versions of “teacher mug”.

      Generated does not mean validated

These are structured suggestions, not search-volume claims. Remove anything inaccurate and combine them with category, attribute and marketplace research.
